It appears that DistroKid is engaging in union-busting. From UMAW:
"On Monday, Oct. 21st, DistroKid placed 37 employees, roughly 25% of its staff, on administrative leave, pending layoffs. This includes the entire full-time customer support staff and most of their quality assurance engineers. The employees who were placed on leave were all members of the DistroKid union, which had won its election in April with strong numbers."

For now, buying music from bandcamp is better than streaming. Some artists use Patreon too and other similar platforms for exclusive content. Seeing live music helps (though there's separate issues now on ticket fees and third-party resellers) as does buying merch (but sometimes venues take a cut of these sales). Spreading the word on music you like never can hurt.
