A little after 9am on Thursday, I boarded my first train of a journey that has become increasingly familiar over the years. It was my sixth visit to the convention, having first attended in 2019 before COVID forced a break, but I returned in 2022. It was also my fourth time making the journey by train. The first leg carried me from the South Coast to London Victoria, followed by a tube trip to London Euston and a welcome lunch break before the faster train north. By around 4pm, I was walking through the NEC halls once again, ready for another weekend at @ukgamesexpo 2026.

UK Games Expo & Travelling in the UK
Last week I attended the UK Games Expo in Birmingham for the first time! As a seasoned SPIEL-attendee, I was especially curious to see how this compares. I’ve been to conventions other than SPIEL, of course, such as the Berlin Brettspiel Con, Spiel Doch! in Duisburg/Dortmund, some Dutch one I forgot the name of, and some smaller ones. But IMHO none of those are comparable.
Now that I’ve been […]
On my way home from @UKGamesExpo I stopped off to see the student final project showcase at #ISARTDigital in #Paris
At the beginning of the year, 150 students pitched their project ideas and a dozen of them were chosen to be developed into a playable demo. Kinetic Twinz was developed by a multidisciplinary team of 17 students.
Last weekend I ran Unfallen - a narrative Warcry event, at #UKGE
10 players were asked to choose their path through the blighted wilds of Thyria: as either Contaminators seeding creeping corruption, or Remediators sworn to burn out the rot and restore balance.

Just got back from @ukgamesexpo tired but happy. You would think that such a large convention would be a bit impersonal but I found the opposite to be the case. Now on my third time attending, I have gotten to know quite a few people who I was happy to see again. Everyone was friendly, enthusiastic and encouraging — almost enough to restore your faith in humanity.
