Aerial view of the team taking coordinates on the ground as clouds roll in. A #lake now fills the indent where the glacier used to be. The team uses #Trimble #geospatial technology to log the location coordinates of the targets; the tool gives high precision positions within a few centimetres. Since the #glacier is beyond the standard trekking routes, they are joined by a local military guard, which lends a hand with the survey process.

This interview with Charles #Trimble is very interesting! How #GPS almost died in the 1990's. We need to learn from this today! This is why we need international rules and standards.
"A satellite communications company (ICO) began lobbying globally to take 5 MHz of protected GPS spectrum and reallocate it for commercial use. They had secured votes from 47 countries"
So I found the insides of a Trimble GPS in the scrap pile.
I suspect it's in working order and curious folks without the correct cable just wanted to see inside the globe.
So anyone know the pinout for these things?
As now that it does not have it's case, I can just solder some USB UART directly to the pins seen here and not feel bad.

In-between reading the news and finishing episodes of The Lazarus Project on Netflix, I've been doing some #3D #SketchUp modeling of appliances and fixtures. This, from the last 2 days.
In the past, I would have posted them for free on #3DWarehouse, but no more, on account that they no longer support v2018 and #Trimble has gone to a subscription model. Trimble has forever lost access to all of my high quality models, though many have copied my old models.
