The Rumble | the PROPAGANDA site
The Rumble is a band that combines the time-honored New Orleans traditions of brass band funk and Mardis Gras Indian Tribes. They practically grew out of Cha Wa, an earlier, Grammy winning precursor in the same funk/Indian Tribe space that they drew most of their members from. They are led by the Second Chief of the Golden Eagles tribe Joseph Boudreaux Jr. on vocals and are loaded with an excellent group of instrumentalists who combine their funk prowess with the kind of brass band inspired jazz sound that pretty much screams NOLA front to back. There is a bit of a bluesy streak in their music at times, but for the most part, they built their pieces on a boisterous, joyful, upbeat, uptempo sound that is liable to induce spontaneous mass dancing upon contact.

Lava La Rue | the PROPAGANDA site
Lava La Rue (aka Ava Laurel) is a contemporary pop and rock artist with roots extending into R&B and a relatively trippy brand of hip-hop. There are some psychedelic strands that go through their music, which was especially up front in the woozy, laid-back sound with lazy beats that their earlier EPs were built on. They moved towards deeper grooves and a funkier feel later, bringing tighter beats and a rock-oriented edge on display on their debut album, 2024's Starface. R&B influences continue to stay close to the surface, which makes for a neatly eclectic approach that is Prince-like to an extent, at least in terms of their stylistic direction.

White Woolly | the PROPAGANDA site
White Woolly is a Louisville based power trio that plays in the surf rock style with its usual middle eastern undertones (hat tip to Dick Dale) while keeping a relatively light touch on the twang. There is also an alt-rock slant in their sound that gives their music its distinct flavor and places them in a minor crossover territory. This combination ties into their propensity to lean into a darker shade of the spectrum. Their guitar work tends to be edgier than it is slithery; the beats are more propulsive than they are dancey; plus, they bring a slight jamming vibe to their presentation as a trio. Their songs are just as likely to have vocals as they can be instrumental, shared between guitarist Charlie Hill and bassist Leah Outlaw.

chlothegod | the PROPAGANDA site
chlothegod (aka Chloe Chavis) is a vocalist and pop artist who has the ability to switch things up stylistically in ways that cannot be pigeonholed that easily. She started out with strong R&B and soul influences, then it appears that the dam broke on her follow-up EP, I Feel Different Every Day (2025), where she pulled from a wider range of influences, more openly accessing an edgier rock accent that goes well with her razor sharp wit. The record also served as a good platform to display her range as a vocalist in the way she can deftly shift between a range of delivery modes across her songs, including a big pop voice, a gentle rapping style and a harsh tone that befits a grungier sound.

Jessie Murph | the PROPAGANDA site
Jessie Murph's carefully crafted and confidently delivered music is anchored primarily in the neo soul sound, with plenty of R&B inspired contemporary pop in the mix as well. She is a powerful singer who carries herself with the kind of swagger Amy Winehouse was known for, plus she also has a similar nasal resonance in her voice. Her lyrics tend to be quite direct, and can get fairly explicit at times. She is also fond of switching things up and moving into a rap cadence occasionally. As highly polished as her songs tend to be production-wise, they can also feel raw emotionally, mostly due to Murph's ability to push out big, dramatic tones.

Ok, Cuddle | the PROPAGANDA site
Ok, Cuddle (used to be Uncle Pizza) is a Brooklyn based band with a free-flowing, slightly anarchic feel that plays a primal version of emo, loud and proud. They are led by singer-guitarist Nicole Harwayne, whose manic energy is matched by the rest of the band thunderously ripping through their songs like their lives depended on it. They alternate between a sparse sound with gentle tones that usually serve as the set-up before the next burst ion the loud/quiet dynamics. There is often a math-like quality to their music, adorned with frequent hardcore accents and occasional jazzy flourishes. The way they bounce between these elements unpredictably, their songs play out like a cascade of ideas interspersed with Harwayne's spoken word interludes.

Yoshika Colwell is a folk artist and a singer-songwriter with gentle melodies and a quiet tone. Her songs are often acoustic in nature, delivered in a deliberate pace, giving off vibes of introversion that are underscored by the self-examination in her lyrics. Whether she is on the guitar or the piano, or has arrangements that slide into the chamber folk territory resonating through its string arrangements, her music is the peaceful kind that has a calming effect on the listener. She sings in a soft voice that also feels reassuring and grounded, with a subtle hint between the lines that we'll all be fine at the end.

Emmeline | the PROPAGANDA site
Emmeline Armitage, who goes by her first name alone, blends a variety of influences into a distinctive sound that owes as much to trip-hop as it does to R&B and hip-hop, though perhaps not always in obvious ways. Her singing has a contemporary pop edge, but her roots as a vocalist are planted in spoken word poetry. She did, in fact, start out as a poet before she came to music as an outlet, an arc that is reflected quite well in the evolution of her music: Her focus was less on the instrumental component initially, using electronic loops as accompaniment in her early recordings. From there, she moved towards an inventive and highly effective production, with melodic phrasings built into her songs that present a more complete musical experience to the listener.

Dead Gowns | the PROPAGANDA site
Dead Gowns is the project/moniker of singer-songwriter Geneviève Beaudoin of Portland (Maine), whose music comes with a wistful, romantic sound and an introspective feel. Occasionally she brings an overt rock edge through her band's presentation. Even in those moments, though, her delivery, pacing, and the sense of vulnerability she projects through her voice (shades of Kristine Leschper, to some extent) hint at a quiet intensity lying underneath. Her songs tend to be more on the subtle side melodically, bolstered by a strong emotional center of gravity and an introverted attraction that adds quite a bit of replay value to her songs.
