Khu.éex’ is a band with indigenous membership (from Tlingit, Haida and Blackfoot tribes) that come together for a fully ecclectic experience that is centered around various Native American folk traditions. For the most part, they play a combination of funk and loose jazz. Dispersed in between, however, are a range of other styles including full on jazz fusion, post-rock, even some dirge metal now and then. Spoken word poetry and storytelling are also integral to their music. The band was founded by bassist Preston Singletary (Tlingit) and legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell (with Cherokee ancestry). They have been making fascinating music with records dating back to 2016. Their albums can sometimes induce a whiplash effect in the way the band shifts gears in radical ways between genres, but that is also a great reason to come back to their work to experience that wide spectrum.
Philadelphia based pop/neo soul artist Zinadelphia also embraces a vintage soul sound as well as the jazzy textures of mid-century pop in her songs.

Sometimes all you need is a guitar and drums to raise all the ruckus that your punk heart desires, which is something that the Colchester, Essex based the Meffs have taken to heart. The duo consists of Lily Hopkins on the guitar and vocals, spilling her angry guts out every song, paired with drummer Lewis Copsey, not quite taking his foot off the pedal at any point. Their music is built around a more classic punk style with its adrenaline rush and propulsive sound. As loud and wild and explosive as they are, they are also melodic because Hopkins infuses her songs with practically hummable tunes, and sometimes even some old school hard rock worthy riffs. She also does a good job in balancing her ire with sarcasm in her lyrics, and that is about the only break that this fireball of a band is interested in granting the listener.
Shower Curtain often takes the softer edges of shoegaze and alt-rock that underscore the melodic nature of their songs, but they do have a dial they like to turn up as needed to crank up a noisier sound.

Shower Curtain is a band led by guitarist and singer-songwriter Victoria Winter who blends distorted shoegaze tones with a soft focus alt-rock, while her sense of yearning drives the music. Though the band generally goes for a gentle sound, they also enthusiastically crank up the fuzz here and there and harden their shoegaze. The band benefits a great deal from the top-notch musicianship on board, including a powerful rhythm section and a jangly dual guitar attack that keeps the music in constant motion.
The glorious joy of vintage soul comes alive in the work of Curtis Harding, who brings a little bit of classic R&B and rock along with that sound, treating it with deep respect and a brilliant contemporary finish.

Curtis Harding is a vessel through which we have the joyous, glorious sounds of the classic soul of the '60s come gushing to our contemporary music scene with great gusto. Soul is not the only thing that comes through. There is also classic R&B, a bit of psychedelia, some vintage rock, and a whole lot of Sly Stone that comes with it to form a well-rounded, full-on experience of an era. Harding's gift is not that he can channel all the right vibes of a period but that he makes it sound fresh and clear for contemporary audiences. He captures its rich layers, the fat bass, the big drums, the zany brass, the chugga chugga guitar, and the powerful backing vocals in a pitch-perfect way, all handled with due respect as opposed to being treated like an old time sound frozen in amber.
There is a lot of dream pop meets light shoegaze shading to NewDad's music, and influences of mostly late '80s post-punk sound, which the band mixes with their melancholic flair and shapes into melodically bold songs.

NewDad adorns their indie rock with the floating tones of a softer form of shoegaze and/or dream pop. Their songs have a distinctly melancholic quality that undergirds the music. Vocalist Julie Dawson operates on that premise with her misty presentation and a voice that projects a sense of sorrow. The instrumental end of the band, on the other hand, has a good command of the late '80s version of post-punk from a stylistic point of view, and especially in terms of their sparkling guitar jangle and the lively bass lines (think The Cure's more pop-conscious songs). The band is fairly strong on the melodic front as well, pushing out songs that are very likely to stick in the listener's mind for a while.
