Jill Minor@arratoon @bookstodon I mean, yes, Joe is not super fleshed out but I think that’s kind of the point of him. He’s just a good solid man, like Hardy’s Gabriel Oak. He’s a contrast to the flashy superstar dude, and all the reasons why the MC’s marriage is a great one are kinda private and inscrutable to outsiders and even her daughters, if that makes sense? Patchett draws the veil of secrecy and sanctity around those two. For me it works. #TomLake

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. I started listening to it based on the description. I immediately thought it was beautiful. I love the themes of theatre and family. The narrator is Meryl Streep, who is very good of course. I’m loving it so much, I ordered a special edition hardcover.
