Book 2 is "The Will of the Many" by James Islington, first in the Hierarchy series.

I read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch (interesting idea, but...), and Permafrost by Alistair Reynolds. Both novels are not my thing. Too much science and not enough (quality) fiction. I want a good story.
I like stories.
This book looks promising. 🤗

Now onto The Strength of the Few, which has been released today. Can’t wait to see what this Hierarchy series further has in store. The first book was outstanding.
