Last week I paid a visit to the Coolidge Reservation, a Trustees of Reservations property in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. While not old growth, it's been left alone for long enough to start to have old growth forest characteristics.
The blue blaze on the pine tree is huge - way bigger than my hand - so that tree is bigger than you might have thought. 4 or 5 inches wide, and 10 inches or so long (I should have brought a ruler!)
