The purpose of the Town Hall style meeting is to strengthen education and advocacy on behalf of fair, just, and humane immigration policies. The meeting will focus on immigrants, ICE, and local responses – both existing and needed - to current federal immigration policies. In doing so, organizers hope to build a constituency for immigrant justice, awaken consciousness about Hanscom flights deporting immigrants from this region, and demonstrate the seriousness with which the co-sponsors are addressing ICE, the policies governing it, and its activities. Co-sponsors, along with the Lincoln Democratic Town Committee, include Lincoln Witness, the Racial Justice Committee at First Parish Lincoln, and the Social Justice Commission at St. Anne’s in-the-Field. Invited panelists include representatives from the Attorney General’s Office, Fuerza, the International Institute of New England, the Organizers of Bearing Witness at the ICE Burlington Detention Center, and a group in opposition to the use of Hanscom Air Field to deport immigrants.
