Retired (mostly) accessibility pro. I love your pet pictures.
You may know me from the other place as sarahebourne. I try not to post about politics, but it can be hard when it affects people's lives and well-being. I like cats, dogs, birds, live music, and the interesting things people do and make.

Hive Mind: Looking for a sci-fi book read in the mid-'60s. Takes place in a moon colony run by a large corporation. Murders are happening & no one can find the murderer. A detective is brought up from Earth to assist. He is blind & has a "birth defect" that allows him to see people as strange, colorful geometric objects, which leads to the answer. Need author & title.

I got my hearing checked and asked the doctor how you pronounce "tinnitus". She said both were correct - before I even suggested a second possibility. How do you pronounce it? Edit, which resets the poll, to fix a spelling error.

It started with Chickadees, but lately there have been a lot of nuthatches. Robins in my backyard, and even one out in Washington! https://mastodon.social/@sbourne/114628206499997175 And a bunch of other birds there, too: https://mastodon.social/@sbourne/114628308468792061 The other day, it was Red-winged Blackbirds. Once a Hermit Thrush, and another time a Pine Warbler. I never have treats for them, just sweet talk, so I'm not quite sure what I've done that would cause my name to be spread on the bird network.

I've seen a number of posts recently about a woman who rescued a crow and now lots of crows bring her gifts. And of course I've read many stories before of crowd bringing gifts to "friends" or holding grudges against "enemies". But is it only crows that recognize people? More and more when I'm out walking in parks and wildlife preserves, small birds will fly to a bush by my head or on the path in front of me. I greet them politely and move on, or they do.

Libraries Under Attack
(wait, what? Those peaceful people?)

Hi everyone,

I have a weekend blog post ready.

I was asked to speak to a group of librarians this week. Here is a text of the discussion about how to best deal with would-be censors and how we came to this moment.

“It’s a bolide meteor, which is essentially a fireball. These are large and often spark a sonic boom when passing through the atmosphere with speeds faster than the sound barrier and air compressing ahead of the meteor as it races through, generating a massive pressure wave.” -- Ken Mahan, lead meteorologist for the Boston Globe.

Our power went out in the wild weather this morning; still waiting for an estimated restoration time. And then a huge BOOM! It seems that may have been a meteorite exploding in the air. (It sounded like somebody dropped a dumpster from oh, 10 stories or so.)
Numerous reports of a 'large boom' with shaking felt at ground level across interior MA from about Franklin MA north thru North-Central RI. USGS has "not" reported an earthquake. This "might" be a meteor that blew up in midair with light streak observed per social media. Monitoring #mawx #riwx #ctwx

If anyone knows a lawyer in Massachusetts that deals with disability discrimination in housing, please let me know. I'm having a hard time finding anyone to help.

Boost for visibility would be appreciated.

UPDATE: Thank you so much for all of the boosts! It actually sounds like there may have been a massive misunderstanding. I'm waiting for confirmation from the landlord's attorney, but we each may have made some bad assumptions. Will update again when I hear back.

Hilo caught a chipmunk while being walked this morning. No mean feat when you're wearing a harness and on a leash! She carried it around like a kitten for a while, but was so disappointed when it ran away (uninjured!) when she set it down.
