A judicial storm is brewing around the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. As reported by El Confidencial, this morning at dawn, agents of the Guardia Civil appeared at the party’s headquarters at Via Ferraz in Madrid to conduct searches as part of an investigation under judicial secrecy.

According to several Spanish media outlets, the investigation would concern a suspected illicit financing scheme of the PSOE and would be separate from the “Plus Ultra” case, which in the past involved former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

At present, one of the few certainties that has emerged is that the operation falls within the framework of an investigation coordinated by Judge Ismael Moreno of the National Court. Some legal sources have also reportedly told Spanish media that the investigation would concern cash payments received by the PSOE between 2017 and 2024 to cover expenses incurred by party executives, employees, and collaborators.

As reported by ANSA, these payments would be similar to those received by former Minister of Transport José Luis Abalos and his consultant Koldo Garcia, currently in pre-trial detention and on trial as part of an investigation into alleged bribes related to the supply of healthcare materials during the Covid-19 pandemic. Operations that could constitute the crime of money laundering.

The raid comes as Prime Minister Sánchez, who would be innocent of the alleged facts, is in the Vatican to meet with Pope Leo XIV. Intercepted by journalists, the Spanish leader said he was calm and entirely innocent of the investigation. A clarification that, however, did not stop the protests of the opposition.

“We are in a state of agony. Here we are discussing not only the decency of the government or the Socialist Party, but the risk of a wider political contagion. There is only one thing left to do: immediately give the word to the Spanish. We have had enough,” declared the leader of the Partido Popular, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

According to Feijóo, it is now necessary to call for early elections. The conservative leader has also appealed to allied forces of the progressive executive led by Sánchez to present a motion of no confidence against the prime minister, as he claims, “this executive smells of rot.”

“How many more raids, how many more commissions, how many more bribes, how much more money hidden in bags, how many jewels, how many more investigations will be needed?” asked the conservative leader, referring to the numerous judicial investigations that are engulfing the PSOE.

Nel filmato, si sente Hines esclamare ripetutamente: “Bobby, perché?”, mentre Kennedy tenta di afferrare i due serpenti neri. “Stavano facendo sesso. E allora, cosa dovevano essere?”, chiede una voce fuori campo, dopo che Kennedy è riuscito ad acciuffarli, sollevando i serpenti verso la telecamera con un sorriso. Ad un certo punto, uno dei serpenti sembra mordere al dito Kennedy. “Oh mio Dio – esclama la moglie allarmata – sei fuori di testa”. “Stanno mordendo?”, è la domanda a Kennedy. “Sì”, ha risposto lui. “Tesoro, tesoro, lasciali andare! Oh mio Dio. Bobby, ti prego!”, aggiunge Hines, mentre il marito sorride e avvicina i serpenti alla telecamera.
L’episodio è uno degli diversi incontri documentati con animali esotici che il settantaduenne segretario alla Salute ha avuto nel corso degli anni.
