AGI - In seguito all'epidemia di ebola nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo e in Uganda, il governo italiano chiede ai vertici dell'Unione europea di rafforzare la vigilanza alle frontiere attraverso regole comuni per la gestione degli arrivi dalle zone colpite da focolaio. Lo fa con una lettera inviata dalla premier Giorgia Meloni a Ursula von der Leyen, ad Antonio Costa, presidenti rispettivamente della Commissione europea e del Consiglio Ue e a Nikos Christodoulides, presidente di turno dell'Unione europea.

"L’Italia ritiene che la situazione epidemiologica nell'Africa centrale collegata al recente focolaio di virus Ebola Bundibugyo (BVD) nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo e in Uganda richieda la massima attenzione". E' quanto si legge in una nota di Palazzo Chigi.

"Per questo motivo il Presidente del Consiglio, Giorgia Meloni, ha inviato una lettera al Presidente di turno dell'UE Nikos Christodoulides, al Presidente del Consiglio europeo António Costa e alla Presidente della Commissione europea Ursula von der Leyen. L'obiettivo - si spiega - è sollecitare, nel rispetto delle prerogative nazionali in materia di tutela della salute, un coordinamento rafforzato della vigilanza alle frontiere attraverso regole comuni per la gestione degli arrivi diretti e indiretti dalle zone colpite".
Meloni "ha proposto l'inserimento del tema della gestione delle frontiere all'ordine del giorno del Consiglio europeo del 18-19 giugno 2026", spiega sempre palazzo Chigi aggiungendo che "in vista di questo appuntamento, il Governo italiano ha chiesto di anticipare il coordinamento in oggetto in una videoconferenza dei Ministri della Salute già la prossima settimana e nel Consiglio EPSCO del 16 giugno per definire le priorità operative". A livello nazionale il Ministero della Salute, "in raccordo con la Protezione Civile, ha emanato circolari per attivare una sorveglianza sanitaria mirata e protocolli di vigilanza per i viaggiatori in rientro dalle regioni colpite".

The Italian government, following the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, is asking the leaders of the European Union to strengthen border surveillance through common rules for managing arrivals from affected areas. Meloni to the EU: "Strengthen Border Surveillance"
“For this reason, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent a letter to the current President of the EU Nikos Christodoulides, to the President of the European Council António Costa and to the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The objective – it explains – is to urge, respecting national prerogatives in matters of health protection, strengthened coordination of border surveillance through common rules for the management of direct and indirect arrivals from affected areas.”
Meloni “proposed the inclusion of the issue of border management on the agenda of the European Council on June 18-19, 2026,” always explains Chigi Palace, adding that “in anticipation of this meeting, the Italian Government has asked to advance the coordination in question in a videoconference of Health Ministers next week and in the EPSCO Council on June 16 to define operational priorities.” Nationally, the Ministry of Health, “in coordination with Civil Protection, has issued circulars to activate targeted health surveillance and vigilance protocols for travelers returning from affected regions.”
