La Francia di Emmanuel Macron batte l’Italia di Giorgia Meloni. E che fosse una sfida anche tra leader e capitali lo dimostra il fatto che a fare la differenza è stato il voto degli Stati membri. Che hanno preferito la candidatura di Lille a quella di Roma per ospitare la nuova sede dell’Agenzia europea delle dogane (Euca). La scelta è stata presa dal Consiglio e dal Parlamento europeo: tra nove città candidate, Lille e Roma sono arrivate al ballottaggio. Entrambe sono risultate essere le due città votate sia dal Consiglio che dal Parlamento. A quel punto sono iniziate le votazioni congiunte: al terzo round Lille si è imposta con 36 voti contro i 18 di Roma.

A fare la differenza, come detto, il voto degli Stati membri che hanno preferito la candidatura francese a quella italiana. Mostrando come i rapporti di Parigi in Ue siano migliori di quelli di Roma. Per la delegazione del Movimento 5 Stelle al Parlamento Ue, questa decisione “dimostra ancora una volta l’irrilevanza del governo Meloni all’interno delle istituzioni europee”. “Avrà sicuramente influito in questa decisione finale – proseguono gli eurodeputati – anche l’assenza del ministro dell’Economia Giancarlo Giorgetti alla presentazione lo scorso 28 gennaio al Parlamento europeo della candidatura della capitale. Un’assenza che a Bruxelles si è notata. La candidatura di Roma era forte e autorevole e avrebbe portato posti di lavoro e nuove opportunità di sviluppo, ma purtroppo dobbiamo raccontare l’ennesima disfatta italiana in Europa”.
Rammarico viene espresso anche dal sindaco di Roma, Roberto Gualtieri, che parla di “amarezza” e di candidatura “oggettivamente più forte”. Per Gualtieri ha prevalso l’alleanza tra Francia e Germania, mostrando “un modello intergovernativo in cui oggettivamente i due Paesi più grandi a turno si prendono tutto non è un modello di Europa che ci piace”.
