I've also asked on ravlery about those needles - one additional pair has surfaced, bought at a thrift store in the UK a while back. I bought mine in Denmark, so they are probably from northern Europe. But nothing else so far.
They are magnetic so probably made from steel, which matches the relative heaviness. And they are 20 cm / 8 in

Finally resolved some annoyingly persistent problems (warp threads kept snapping!) and I am in love with weaving again. Homework in progress. I'm so lucky that I get to do this.
