♻ A #WindTurbine parts factory under construction in the #UK has secured £225m of investment.

#SeAhWindUK* said the money for the site at #Teesworks Freeport, near #Redcar, will increase its capacity to build bigger parts.

It will make monopiles - the structures that support offshore wind turbines - which will then be exported to #Europe and the #US.

*The manufacturing firm is owned by #SouthKorea's SeAH Steel Holding, which broke ground at #Teesworks in 2022.

Redcar wind turbine parts factory gets £225m investment

Once open, SeAH UK's factory will make monopiles which are used to support offshore wind turbines.

Those of you following the festering corruption around the Teesworks site will be unsurprised to learn that the sites's owners (recipients of very favourable terms for developing the site) have declared that while they might be willing to re-negotiate some of the terms of their contract with the local authority, any change in the ownership structure (the key complaint) is off the cards.

Of course, its hardly surprising; who'd give up such a sweet deal?

Good news from the Financial Times today.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen (Freeports 'R' Us) & his cronies Chris Musgrave & Martin Corney are forced to renegotiate the ownership model of the controversial Teesworks regeneration project, after adverse publicity following the independent review of their land grab.
These grifters exemplify a Tory ethos of transferring public wealth into private hands for short-term gain.

Spooky thing about writing about old movies on Substack is that every time I start to type, some correspondence with the film pops up in the news. This time it's Lord Houchen's freeport which is like an early 20C Chinese treaty port only operating in reverse, shipping capital offshore in the way Shanghai shipped capital to London, Amsterdam and Paris 100 years ago.

Of course, the thing about the Teesworks report is that none of it means anything until we hear back from Richard Brooks.
