Thisbe’s Tarantula-hawk Wasp

I was out pruning the fig tree and notices a large critter on a fig above me. To my surprise it was this handsome wasp! I’d never seen one in person before so I was quite excited to see it chewing away on the over-ripe figs. Of course I submitted the photo to iNaturalist. #wasp #tarantulahawk #figtree

I'm not sure what's elegant about the Elegant Tarantula Hawk, Pepsis menechma. Males have antennae that look like someone stuck a pair of yellow foam pool noodles on its head. (New photo from Austin this weekend).

Paralyzed juvenile tarantula.

I took it home.

It may be paralyzed for months.

I gave it water today. After it drank it lifted a fang up. I'm hoping that's a good sign.
