I just received this 😬 #synergy #symless #symlesssynergy

Heads up #Symless (the company behind #synergy) had one of their application servers attacked.

As per their e-mail:

"We identified unauthorised access to one of our application servers. The issue was contained and the server was rebuilt. The system involved did not store customer data, and no data breach occurred. No action is required from you.

All customer account information, including your email address and hashed password, is stored in a separate database that remained protected...

After *much* struggle, I was able to get Symless' Synergy to work between both macOS and KDE Plasma.

Initially, both machines could not see each other on the network, even with the Firewall port open.

The solution was to fully uninstall Synergy from macOS and reinstall it. Immediately both machines were able to see each other.

Now I can *finally* share one keyboard / mouse between two machines.

tested on: Synergy v3.3.1

Switched popOS to run the COSMIC desktop on both machines. Though it's only an alpha, it's pretty responsive and fast. Hoping Symless will get Synergy working with it. #COSMICdesktop #symless #synergy
I should probably sing it’s praises more often than I do, but if you use multiple machines between work and home and wish to control them all with the same keyboard and mouse #Synergy by #Symless is brilliant! I have it on a Mac, Win11 and Debian 12. Works a treat! Very reasonable license cost! #kvm #homelab
@ketmorco Thanks a lot for the information. I also fear that such a device probably doesn‘t even exist.
#Symless is a cool tip I didn’t know, but for my situation probably still won‘t work as one laptop is work-related and the other one private. I won‘t be able to install „outside“ software on the work laptop.

@prosselius well, the term you'd be looking for is "KVM switch" though I'm not sure if any of them have this particularly advanced functionality. FWIW you *could* get more or less to this point by using something like #Symless.

You would have laptop 1 running monitor 1 and laptop 2 running monitor 2. Then you could move the cursor back and forth between computers. This works well if you don't necessarily need to run a single application across both monitors, and it can share your clipboard.

We’ve got some cool stuff today! A #PluginFocus article by Baptiste Verstraeten from the @thalium_team . He introduces #Symless - a nifty tool aiming to simplify the process of retrieving & defining structures, classes, and virtual tables 🌐 https://hex-rays.com/blog/plugin-focus-symless/?utm_source=Social-Media-Post&utm_medium=Mastodon&utm_campaign=Plugin-Focus-Symless

@dashie @rugk OMFG, I just read their privacy policy:

“Storing your personal data on Google Drive (a cloud storage service). As our storage is hosted, your information is protected by the security measures put in place by Google.“

Oh, well. That was nice while it lasted.
