Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz

I read this book as the March 2026 pick from Sword and Laser. I've been following Tom Merrit and Veronica Belmont's show since it was featured in the lineup on Geek and Sundry's YouTube page back when I was in college. Also, I had bought the book last fall when I saw it at Barnes and Noble after hearing Newitz and Charlie Jane Anders talk about it on Our Opinions Are Correct. So, an excuse to read a book that was sitting right there was appreciated. Not that I really needed one, but […]

Recently finished Elric of Melniboné which was the #SwordandLaser December pick. Just the first one. It actually got better right at the end which makes me kind of want to read later stories where as halfway through I was debating dropping it entirely. #Fantasy #FantasyBooks

I'm reading Brightness Falls from the Air by James Tiptree Jr. (aka, Alice Sheldon), a sci-fi book published in 1985. It's part of my #swordandlaser bookclub.

About 50% in and I'm not sure I'll finish. Some of the content is troubling and definitely doesn't stand the test of time. It just doesn't feel right. Paternalism, child porn (not explicit), sexist gender roles, etc. Story seems fine but I haven't met the "deadly conflict" yet. But maybe I just don't need to.

One of many upsides to #RemoteWork - Before, I could never immediately add books to my #GoodReads "want to read" as I mostly listened to podcasts on my long, crappy commute or while walking dogs. Now that I'm ALWAYS HOME you could track the timing of when I listen to #ReadingGlasses or #SwordandLaser by when I add their suggestions to my list
Six Wakes finished this morning. It was the #swordandlaser pick for the month. Turned out to be a good #scifi murder mystery set on a spaceship with clones. #sfbooks
12 months of reading #swordandlaser assignments: well worth it but now I want to work on my backlog 🙂 https://zerokspot.com/weblog/2018/12/21/12-months-of-sword-ans-laser/ #blogging #reading

The next assignment for the #swordandlaser #bookclub is "Slan" by A.E. van Vogt: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/643792.Slan

Now if only I were already done with last month's assignment…

From its first publication as a serial in Astounding Science Fiction magazine in 1940, Slan was acclaimed by readers as one of, if not TH...

Already done with this month's #swordandlaser assignment "An Unkindness of Ghosts" by Rivers Solomon: https://zerokspot.com/weblog/2018/03/03/an-unkindness-of-ghosts/ 😁
