@axwax @tiredhorizon here’s a larger view. That was my studio setup around 2021. Currently have a 3 tier setup with a Roland D50, Yamaha SY77 and Roland Super JX10 but i miss having the Sequential Sixtrak as main lead. Currently in storage. Also missing having drums above the keyboard. Main drum machine is off to the side now next to mixer.
Although, as a midi controller, the Roland Super JX10 with vecoven firmware is much superior.
Might be raining, but I'm on the porch playing with my Roland JP-08. Fits on your lap. I have one keyboard dock I share with the JP & the JX03. Both boutique modules have a pitch bend and mod wheel so quite usable.
I like the dual tone mode. Kind of what I do with my Super JX10 (two JX8 basically). Only 4 voices but in the studio I run 2 of these for 8 voice polyphony

@cou @iotar @synths and finally, LFO and envelope changes. Main change is env1 key to off. Env1 sustain is on the long side, probably not needed once the JX is plugged into a Hall Reverb (another key component for the sound). Here, a Zoom Multistomp MS-70CDR with HD Reverb.

These are changes I would have made myself, open the filter, turn off dynamic, increase Vca vol and reduce Vca dyna (or even turn off). Jx10 preset is really close to the actual patch for the Final Countdown.

Some interesting discovery at lunch time. The stab brass tone (72, preset non volatile) on the JX10 is not used in the Stab Brass 8VA patch preset (C6) as I mentioned. So I decided to compare tone 72 from the #superjx #JX10 to preset 28 on the #Roland #jx8p. IMHO 72 sounds like 28 tweaked to make it sound more like the Final Countdown lead... jx 10 came out a year later, a possibility. #synth #programming #midi #analog
Starting with the DCOs, very similar:
@cou @StefanoGaivota @iotar and according to the JX10 manual (and checking on my synth), it is based on tones 74 and 75, GOWESTBAS 2 and GOWESTBAS 1. Sounds counterintuitive. I'll double check the JX8P preset to see what it is based on.
On the previous Roland advertisement for the Super JX 10, they really tried to pass their analog monster synth for a digital one, because samplers and Yamaha DX fm synths were taking the market by storm. On this one, they empasized the layers (it is afterall two Roland JX8P in one keyboard), but no real highlight of the analog goodies… except “deep broad analog sounds”. This would be the last Roland analog flagship as romplers and samplers took over.
