First Bus is extending its 3A service in Leigh-on-Sea, supported by #Southend Council funding, to improve connections from Blenheim Chase and Eastwood Road to the town centre. From Sunday 22 February, the route will continue west along Blenheim Chase into Eastwood Road and join London Road at the Elms junction, adding five new stops. Elmsleigh Drive remains served by other council-supported services. James McCluskey, First Bus #Essex Commercial Director, said the changes improve journeys and connectivity, while Councillor Paul Collins highlighted the first regular daytime service in over 20 years and new, accessible bus stops along the route.

#TheGuardian: "what happens when a city loses its #university?"

"When #EssexUniversity’s #Southend campus opened [in 2008], it was a message of hope for a ‘left behind’ #UK seaside town. Its closure [next academic year, which was announced in December,] will be felt far beyond its 800 #students, some of whom will not get their degrees" as they are unable to relocate or commute.
