Today I learned, that weather stations for the #Arctic are powered by #solar panels, installed vertically to minimize snow accumulation. During the ~100 days of arctic night solely powered by #solarBatteries, which, due to the cold temperatures, only have ~50% capacity. Besides the whole thing having continuous satellite communication AND being polarbear-proof.
So tell me more about how off-grid solar power is not feasible in the cold, and when the sun is not shining?!

In the e-conversion Cluster of Excellence, experts are researching the mechanisms of energy conversion, providing crucial foundations for the energy transition. What are the research highlights? What is the secret to the cluster's success and why is Munich the perfect place to explore the renewable energies of the future? We take a look behind the scenes with Prof. Jennifer L.M. Rupp (TUM School of Natural Science) and Prof. Thomas Bein (Department of Chemistry, LMU Munich).
📣 The world's first center for solar batteries and optoionic technologies is being established in Bavaria by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) @tu_muenchen and the Max Planck Society (MPG) @maxplanckgesellschaft, supported by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. 📣

#Japan’s #MoonLander has resumed operations, the country’s space agency said on Monday, indicating that #power had been restored after it was left upside down during a slightly haphazard landing.
The probe, nicknamed the “moon sniper”, had tumbled down a crater slope during its landing on 20 January, leaving its #SolarBatteries facing in the wrong direction and unable to generate electricity. #SLIM #TheMoon
