"In the second half of the 20th century... the #politicalmap was one-dimensional...left versus right, #Labour versus #Conservative.
But this has changed in recent decades. The EU referendum didn’t break down along left-right lines. Instead, #Brexit divided the electorate into #socialliberals
and #socialconservatives."

Navigating the 21st-century electoral map is not straightforward for political parties and the politicians asking for people’s votes.

"Conservative Leader #PierrePoilievre is not bound to adopt any of the policies that were passed at this convention. Poilievre did not take questions from reporters after the votes."

#Conservatives have a dictator as leader. What's the point of having a policy convention when the leader can and does ignore what the members voted for?

#SocialConservatives need a new party of their own to fight for what they want.

Who are the CPC?

They're certainly not Conservatives, at least, not in the fiscal sense.

Preston Manning, the son of Ernest Manning, who was a Social Credit Party of Alberta Premier, formed the party in 1987. Reform was labelled as an Anti-Establishment, Far Right Populist movement.

Through the years, they gained some support, but not enough to form government - they topped out at 60 seats in Parliament under the Reform Party of Canada banner.

In 2000, Preston Manning was defeated by Stockwell Day, who became the leader of the newly renamed "Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance" party (they started with Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance, but being called the CCRAP seemed a little demeaning, so they changed it. Party was never a part of the name officially, but the implication was there) - they were hoping that the new name would appeal more to those in Eastern and Atlantic Canada, as they'd never had any luck winning seats in that region of Canada.

It did improve their fortunes, winning 66 seats in Parliament, but not nearly enough to pose a threat to the governing Liberals. After the defeat, John Reynolds became interim leader, prior to Stephen Harper taking over as leader in early 2002.

In 2003, Peter MacKay of the still weakened PC party, agreed to "merge" with the Alliance. Harper renamed the party from Canadian Alliance to The Conservative Party of Canada. They maintain the name to this day. The party won election to a Minority government in 2006, maintained the minority in 2008, and won a majority in the 2011 election, before losing and becoming the official opposition in 2015.

In their time in office, Harper renamed The Government of Canada "The Harper Government", removed the open press briefings, preferring to offer only statements. They also removed truth in advertising, honest media requirements, and welcomed foreign investment and ownership of Canadian media, which was previously banned. They sold CANDU, a global leader in Nuclear technology, to SNC Lavelin for less than the cost of closing the sale (it was a multi billion dollar public corporation), sold the Canadian Wheat Board to Saudi Arabia (or rather, an investment group under the majority control of Saudi Arabia), and signed a 31 year FIPA agreement with China, which gives China broad powers in Canada to protect their economic interests, and bypass Canadian Courts, along with many other questionable sales and investments. Stephen Harper and the CPC hold the unenviable distinction of being the only government in history found to be in contempt of parliament, as well as having several laws struck down by courts due to being illegal under our Constitution, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Stephen Harper, upon losing the election in 2015, left for the International Democratic Union (IDU), where he leads a group that works to undermine democracy globally, and supports the installation of dictators and authoritarian governments around the world.

He was replaced by first Andrew Scheer, a dual citizen with the US who often took issue with other Members of Parliament being dual citizens, and then Erin O'Toole, a lawyer, who egged on the Liberal government to hold an election, then complained that election was not necessary. After losing the election he begged for, Erin was replaced by a career politician who, while being in parliament for almost 20 years, has never managed to accomplish anything - aside from a bill that wound up requiring him to sign a consent agreement with Elections Canada, as it tried to limit voting rights for Canadians.

Both the CPC and IDU like to define themselves as "Centre Right", but their policies and people are nowhere near centre of anything, they're religious fundamentalists who believe health care should be for profit, education and government should be based on and devout, faithful to their brand of Christianity. The idea of freedom of religion, or multiculturalism is counter to their belief system, as are women's rights.

Their voting record in the house of commons appears to confirm that the only thing they're "for" is power for themselves.

One of the defining changes they brought with them to government was the removal of decorum, they're well known for shouting and heckling other parties attempts to speak, rather than waiting their turn and offering alternatives, or ideas. They're also well known for debating the reality of things, rather than alternative ideas to deal with problems, they offer alternate realities where problems that need to be addressed simply do not exist.

The CPC are dangerous, socially conservative, and want to remove social protections we have in Canada, such as our right to free single payer medical treatment, our freedom of religion, and our constitutional protections of freedom of expression, and freedom FROM hate speech.
