@kdieter If installing #signalcli on desktop, just install the flatpak from flathub: https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.asamk.SignalCli

If on mobile #postmarketOS, install from Alpine repos: https://pkgs.alpinelinux.org/package/v3.22/community/aarch64/signal-cli

Install signal-cli on Linux | Flathub

Use Signal messenger in terminal

@Berker @Sxan Community maintained #flatpak version with ARM builds here: https://signalflatpak.github.io/signal/

#SignalMessenger does not allow the desktop version to be your primary device, so mine is #SignalCLI https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.asamk.SignalCli on my desktop, and the L5 is a linked device.

Btw, it looks like official ARM builds of #SignalDesktop will be available soon but for Debian-based distros only.

#postmarketOS #PureOS #Mobian

@kdieter In case you're not able to link, let me know what you're trying to do? What is your main device?

If you're using #signalcli as your primary, you can convert the device linking QR code from #SignalDesktop to a link and send to your primary device.

@donalddotcat @pi_crew Yes, #signalcli can be used to register an account on Linux (desktop or mobile).

anyone using signal-cli? anyone have any good advise for getting this up and running? Really want to look at programmatically scheduling myself reminders but also would make a nice way to alert my work team OOB

#signal #privacy #signalcli #cyber #security

Using Signal without having a phone has been mostly okay, except it recently has been insistent in asking, WHO WAS PHONE but of course there is no phone, only signal-cli

@proycon I think if you launch #signalcli once every 3 months, it will keep #SignalDesktop linked.

> However, please allow us the option (after registering/activating on Signal Android)

Even do not force a specific #operating_system system (#Android or #iOS in this case) in the first place. This excludes people without such an operating system and without the hacky knowledge how to use #signalcli, which additionally is forbidden to use with the official #signal servers.

@opensourceopenmind @Mer__edith @signalapp @purism @PINE64 @furilabs @postmarketOS @volla @ubports @mobian

Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]
