Shadowgrass is a progressive bluegrass band whose members are based in various towns across the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The group is built around the core of Clay Russell (banjo), Luke Morris (mandolin), and Kyser George (guitar), who have been jamming together since childhood, which speaks to their skill levels and the tightness of their sound. That comes particularly handy in their live performances, where they tend to go deep into jam band mode. Vocals are shared by the Morris pair, Luke and fiddler Madison. They have a dynamic sound that does not necessarily confine itself to bluegrass. Some of their songs have indie folk tones with general Appalachian motifs.
