Though the hospital has a robust generator system and is still providing emergency services, some clinics, and labs have lost power altogether. Doctors have been advised to reschedule all elective outpatient surgeries and procedures, while researchers scramble to save temperature-sensitive samples.

Police sources say Brugaletta, a 16-year San Francisco Police Department veteran, had to be extricated from his car after it was crushed by a massive tree downed in yesterday’s windstorm.

Brugaletta was rushed to General Hospital in critical condition, where he was visited by Chief Bill Scott and the SFPD command staff. SFPD sources say he is now in serious but stable condition and remains hospitalized.

Tuesday’s forceful winds knocked a tree down on Valencia Street between 21st and 22nd, sending it crashing over a car and a red truck – both occupied by drivers.

Strong, 35-mph winds uprooted trees and caused major power outages, creating a dangerous situation throughout the Bay Area. By Tuesday afternoon, winds knocked down a tree that killed one driver near I-280 and derailed a train from the East Bay with 55 passengers inside.
