I've always loved James McAvoy since I first saw him in the original version of Shameless. Other favourite performances include The Last King Of Scotland and Split.
As this poster suggests, James plays an unsettling character in this remake of a recent Danish film. The title relates to a macabre twist that is as horrific as it is original.
Now, because this is a thriller, I won't say much about the plot, but I will commend this movie for keeping the gory bits off screen.
This allows the tension to drive the narrative as we found in a small screening yesterday of about twenty people. We were all being audible in moments of shock or apprehension without ever needing to avert our eyes at some sickening on-screen display of violence.
Recommended.
