Its gonna' be a good #audax ride today. On my last #rrty 200k in 2025. #postbox topper in Stelling Minnis #kent.

Some of you saw my The Giant Circle post sharing the RWGPS track.

Finally got round to writing proper reflections.

The reality of three days grinding round southern England. How my ride buddy and I tackled it together until we didn't, and why that was the right call

Endless Fenland straights, sleep deprivation, and my hopeless mental arithmetic

Moments that make it worthwhile – dawn in the Peak District, camaraderie, the satisfaction of keeping the pedals turning

The mundane but important stuff - bivvy spots, garage food strategies, and why my left brake lever going wonky at 800k nearly sent me into a proper spiral.

If you've wondered what it's like to ride a huge loop for three days straight, or fancy a read about stubbornness, scenery, and the peculiar joys of audaxing, give it a look.

audax: The Giant Circle 1000k DiY

I rode a 300k loop of the M25 in January. That was my RRtY 1 ride for the month. I put a few posts up on Mastodon on the way round, and a map overlay of the route on completion. Someone replied saying they were reminded of The Giant Circle. The route appealed to me straight away. The biggest circle you can ride in the UK. A big beautiful circle. What’s not to love about that? Pretty much there and then I resolved to ride it.

audax: Ham Sandwich DiY 200k - Chatham, England

The bikes front tyre resigned from active service on this ride. Two punctures and then a dramatic blowout. Luckily, the blowout happened very near Canterbury city centre. Tyre and inner tube replaced, and I was back on my way. Deserved a mention in dispatches for gallantry services in England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

That was totally bonkers!! 1000k DIY #RRtY #audax done. The route was like a tangled ball of string at the end. Gonna take a few days coming down from and making any sense of that ride. Sleep deprivation, heat, just the overall non-stop push on to completion. Finished with a few hours in hand. Resting up today. Feeling pretty accomplished. Wish I could stay asleep. #cycling #BikeTooter
Still at it. 874k in the bag. 126k to go. All the contact points are noticeable 😬 #audax #cycling #RRtY #BikeTooter
Nearly 475km into the 1000k DIY. We're a Bit behind schedule, but pretty sure we'll make it within 75 hours. Riding with a friend. Bit slower on the hills than me (lots of them in Wales and Shopshire), needed to stop last night a bit earlier than planned, and had to stop today to fix a puncture. No panic, though. Long day today. Think we'll be riding till 2 or 3 am. So long as I set our around 9 am tomorrow we should get back before the cut-off at 9 am Sunday. #audax #RRtY #cycling #BikeTooter
🗺️ All set for the off tomorrow at 6.00 am. Bikes cleaned (so it will probably rain at some point). Bivvy bag and what not packed in the saddle bag. 75 hours to ride the 1000k DIY Audax I've planned for June's RRtY. 334 k a day. If it all goes pear shaped I've still got Monday to get a last minute 200k in. The Giant Circle (https://ridewithgps.com/events/390659-the-giant-circle). #cycling #audax #RRtY #BikeTooter
@wav3ydave Good luck with the #RRtY
Hey #BikeTooter I just completed the 12th out of 12 Randoneur Round the Year #rrty completing this year's #Audax challenge. Recovery drinks are now being taken on board. I'll post the full set of blog posts and analysis soon.
@jfparis yeah, in exactly the same way that I'm an elite athlete! (Which is what one of the school dads suggested when I explained that I was doing #rrty and what it is to him)
