6/7 The term #Stagflation is now openly used in #Russia. A perilous situation in which the #CentralBank has effectively lost control. It can still raise interest rates, further dilapidating economic activity, but it cannot halt the decline of the #Rouble.

Last Friday the #CentralBank of #Russia hiked its main interest rate to 22%, a jump of 2% in one go.

On those news, the #Rouble hit yesterday a yearly low against the #Dollar. It is not very far off the lows of the 2023 Summer. And is already below the #Kremlin 's target exchange rate for 2027.

The end of the programme by the #CentralBank of #Russia to protect the #Rouble is already having results, with the lowest close against the #Euro in almost one year. This is just a whisker away from the low set in August of 2023.

Mind here that interest rates in #Russia are at 19% and increasing, whereas in #Europe they are at 4% and about to decrease.

Earlier this week the #CentralBank of #Russia signalled the final exhaustion of its programme to sustain the #Rouble. It now plans for an orderly devaluation over the next 18 months, putting ordinary #Russians against an #Inflation episode not witnessed since the 1990s.
