The American Cemetery in the Dutch village of Margraten has become a flashpoint over the removal of displays honoring Black soldiers. The American Battle Monuments Commission removed two panels about Black soldiers from the site’s visitors center. The panels included the story of George H. Pruitt and the segregation policy during World War II. Local Dutch residents and officials are outraged. The removal followed executive orders by Donald Trump ending diversity programs. The U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands seemed to support the removal. Local officials and organizations are demanding the panels be returned.

Does mentioning missionaries, who sought to destroy the language and culture of Alaska Natives, cast American history in a negative light? These are some of dozens of descriptions National Park Service employees flagged as potentially “disparaging” to Americans, according to screenshots shared with The Associated Press. In March, President Donald Trump ordered park employees to flag any public materials that “inappropriately disparage Americans past or living,” and instead “focus on the greatness of the achievements and progress of the American people or, with respect to natural features, the beauty, abundance, and grandeur of the American landscape.”
