I sincerely wonder how many current & former #GOP #senators who voted against both #impeachments during #IQ45 are now losing sleep, wracked with guilt.

It replaced a photo by photojournalist Matt McClain, which showed #Trump with his hands folded in front of him, & was accompanied by a longer caption recounting Trump’s first term & his reelection. “Impeached twice, on charges of #AbuseOfPower & #incitement of #insurrection after supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, he was acquitted by the Senate in both trials,” it read in part.

The #NationalPortraitGallery removed a swath of text that mentioned Trump’s 2 #impeachments & the #Jan6, 2021, #insurrection as it swapped out a prominent photo of him this week.
#Trump & the White House posted on social media Fri & Sat to highlight the updated portrait in the “America’s Presidents” exhibition, which now features a framed B&W photo by White House photographer Daniel Torok.

Smithsonian removes Trump impeachment text as it swaps his portrait

A Trump official previously complained about a caption beside his National Portrait Gallery photo mentioning his impeachments and the U.S. Capitol insurrection.

Representative #JerryNadler, a #NewYork #Democrat who has been one of #Congress’s leading #liberal voices for 3 decades, will not seek re-election next year, heeding a call for generational change roiling his party.

The decision will mark the close of a 34-year congressional career that put Nadler at the center of major #CivilRights battles & 3 presidential #impeachments. It will also almost certainly touch off a crowded primary fight over a rare open Democratic seat in the heart of #Manhattan.

"the [Smithsonian] museum restored information about the incumbent president to a display on presidential #impeachments, but the new version wasn’t necessarily improved: It made changes to the original and removed some details."

White House to review Smithsonian exhibits to ensure Trump’s views are reflected

Donald Trump has made this a difficult year for the Smithsonian. As the White House starts reviewing exhibits, it's poised to get much worse.

MSNBC

An old rule in Washington holds that you are entitled to your own opinions but you are not entitled to your own #facts. #Trump seems determined to prove that wrong.

Don’t like an #intelligence report that contradicts your view? Go after the analysts. Don’t like cost estimates for your #tax plan? Invent your own. Don’t like a predecessor’s #climate policies? Scrub government websites of underlying #data. Don’t like a #museum exhibit that cites your #impeachments? Delete any mention of them.

Before it was removed last month, the placard had been on display since September 2021, according to a #Smithsonian spokesperson. It read, “Case under redesign (history happens),” & mentioned #Trump’s two #impeachments, as well as details about the other 3 presidents.

…National #Museum of #AmericanHistory spokeswoman Valeska Hilbig told The Post that removing the placard was the only change it made as a result of its content review.

WaPo reported on Thursday that in July, the museum removed a placard describing the #Trump #impeachments & reverted the exhibit to how it looked in 2008. That display—a glass case dominated by a file cabinet damaged in the Watergate break-in—says that “only three presidents have seriously faced removal”: Andrew Johnson, Richard M. Nixon & Bill Clinton.

The placard mentioning Trump was removed from the exhibition,…after what the #Smithsonian called a “review” of “legacy content.”
