"When a tech company saturates its market, it has to come up with a way to convince investors that it can still grow, otherwise they will revalue the "growth company" as a "mature company" and lop a massive chunk off its valuation, depriving it of the highly desirable stock that might allow it to resume its growth."

Growth for the sake of growth - the ideology of the cancer cell.

The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI

I asked my #slopPilot this:
Connect the dots for these memes: agentic ai, culture of good enough, Peter principle, you are holding it wrong and reverse centaur.

I got this visual.

#agenticai, #goodenough, #Peterprinciple, #youareholdingitwrong #reversecentaur

I am doing the most 2026 thing: having the AI look through the transcript of my last status meeting presentation and my chats to make a review agent which can help me nail my next status presentation (and actually generate the slides) #reversecentaur
Italo Calvino's 'If on a Winter's Night a Traveler' (1979) is rather prophetic in how computer produced content leads to a mass production of random noise, which then is marketed or not based on response. #Calvino #LLM #reversecentaur #postmodernism

“I have to admit I felt a little weird as I prepared to toss this flaming incendiary device through [Altman’s] front window, but the recipe explicitly stated that this was an essential step to get that creamy, velvety risotto texture. I guess I didn’t know any better. I mean, I’ve never made risotto before.” The suspect went on to tell reporters that he still had “a whole fridge full” of Molotov cocktails at home, having attempted to prep enough risotto to last the week.”

Man Who Threw Molotov Cocktail At Sam Altman’s Home Claims He Was Following ChatGPT Recipe For Risotto

SAN FRANCISCO—Following reports that a 20-year-old man had been arrested for throwing a Moltov cocktail at Sam Altman’s home, the suspect stated Monday that he only initiated the attack because he was following a ChatGPT recipe for risotto. “I’ve been using ChatGPT to help with cooking for a while now, so I didn’t think too much […]

@BusinessInsider @careers-BusinessInsider A good example of what @pluralistic defines as #ReverseCentaur in this case flavoured with a sprinkle of #CognitiveDissonance

I hadn't heard about this kind of #ReverseCentaur before:

"The only winner that emerges are the platforms in the global north [that] capture all the enduring value."

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/mar/21/ai-trainers-identity-cost

People should use machines, not the other way around. But the #AI industry is fundamentally anti-human.

It's high time more people realize this.

Thousands of people are selling their identities to train AI – but at what cost?

Gig AI trainers worldwide are selling moments of their lives, including calls and texts, to AI companies for quick cash

Someone at work turned on Copilot code reviews on GitHub. Now one has to wait 5 minutes for an AI code review before doing anything else. Is this a #ReverseCentaur situation?

for instance, regarding the gradually forming AI usage practices/habits, and seeing this piece in the news, I think we could only benefit from touching base with unions of various kinds. See if we have something to offer that they are interested in (teaching, models, ways of criticizing AI), what direction they would like us to go into, what they would like us to investigate and reasearch, and what to argue for or substantiate with scholarly findings and experiences.

And in the end, it is also us - at least with our RSE hats on, but maybe it even holds for the organisation of academic research as a whole - and our working conditions, tasks and pressures, who are talked about and disposed of in these developments who may be urged to become "reverse centaurs"...

Took a while to find the phrase that @[email protected] used recently that I really liked that summed up this situation. Reverse-centaur This article screams that Burger King would really just prefer to get rid of the squishy human part of their system. The next best thing... make that squishy human subservient to some lines of code that effectively tells them to "smile more".
