Manuel ErhardtI regularly see #users on #Mastadon #retooting their own #toots. What is the idea here? I simply imagine them thinking "my toot was so good, I have to repeat it so people can read it again."
Obviously I'm missing something, but can't work out what.

That it encourages people to be less civil to each other? Are you saying you would rather have people reply to a post rather than comment on a post? I’m just trying to understand this issue/ discussion.
Michael HartleFollowing up on @simon here, not having one inbuilt #algorithm in #Mastodon for proposing stuff seems like a great opportunity to enable this in a decentralised way: crawling accounts, analyzing toots, relationships, etc.
But then not force-feeding this to people through their timeline, but rather offering curated, domain-specific bot accounts #ReTooting good content and accounts to follow to whomever is interested.

Anyone seen any good topic-specific aggregation accounts on here? I'm interested in accounts that produce a continual stream of boosts of interesting posts from other people about specific topics - it feels like Mastodon should be a really good home for that kind of thing, especially given the lack of an "algorithmic" timeline @[email protected] is one example, but I want more!
NateOne of the Mastodon apps I use is pretty twitchy and sometimes I accidentally #retoot something I didn’t intend to when I’m just trying to scroll. If this happened on #othersite, I would likely be totally bummed and immediately undo it. Thankfully my timeline here is pretty chill and I could feel good about #retooting almost anything.

rhcmuts@esdin important to know is that 'boosting' is a different word for 'reblog' (should it be called #retooting?) -- some apps show it as reblogging, the web UI shows it as 'boost'

Depending on what kind of interface you're using, it's either called Boosting or Reposting, although I kinda like calling it #ReTooting hahaha
