Getting back into reading and really missing the Agatha Christie style murder mysteries. Written well enough that reading is easy, seriously intricate plots with a central puzzle to solve, and 8+ suspects.

Modern versions are either sloppily written, break genre conventions too much, or have like 4+1 suspects.

Can anyone recommend a PDF library? One that gives you full access to all objects within the file rather than assuming you just want text and images. I don't care which programming language.

edit: also I want to modify PDFs rather than just examining them. I've got a couple hundred documents out of about five thousand that I want to remove formatting from.
