Rivian says 2026 will be crucial as production of the new Rivian R2 compact SUV begins in Illinois. The brand aims to deliver 20k–25k R2s this year as part of a 62k–67k total output target. Priced around $45k, the dual-motor R2 offers about 656 hp and roughly 300 miles of range, positioning it as Rivian’s key volume model. 🚙⚡
It seems the recently released specs for the #Rivian #R2 #EV show it rated to tow 4400lbs (2000kg). Sad to see that is still a tad low. There really aren’t many EVs capable of towing a heftier load.
And this was for the first release performance version, which is pricier. Cheaper ones might end up with even lower rated towing?

@MarkBrigham was disappointed to see the self presenting door handles and electric latches on #r2 . It’s just unnecessary, overly complicated and potentially dangerous. I’m a current Rivian owner, the truck is amazing and can do most everything but it is definitely overly complicated.
Putting Rivian aside, we have Tesla (Nazi asshole) or Lucid (niche, Saudi funded) and legacy manufacturers that, at least in the US, don’t really want to sell #EV s and just keep making burners
