I am not sure how I found Jessica Wilson’s podcast that “re-grifts” an assortment of MAHA characters, makes sense of murky nutrition content, throws cold water over the panic around “ultra processed foods”, and speaks truth about the ways marginalized people are either ignored or over scrutinized in healthcare and, especially nutrition science, but I’m so glad I did. I’ve learned so many things from this podcast that have helped me understand the roots of my disordered eating behaviors!

Caught the bikes at the start of the march and the bus at the end.
While all the dykes were out in the streets, I stopped in to IKEA and brought home 36 sq ft of deck to assemble. #QueerAgenda
We’ve reached the time when the summer heat outweighs any desire for design & aesthetic. Portland is having a second 90F/32C day so I’ve deployed my janky looking, but very effective hack to block the only west-facing window in our home.
This window is one of those window boxes, so it not even remotely insulated, double-paned, or anything that would improve its efficiency. In the winter cold pours in from this space and in the summer this unshaded window belches temperatures above 105F/40C into the kitchen. On the positive side, our cat loves this space, he lounges on some carpet we put in the bottom and yells at birds.
If you’re struggling with rising temperatures and have access to a a place that sells construction materials, you might consider buying some of these R-Tech insulation panels to block windows. These are coated with Mylar on the side I’m facing out, towards the sun. It’s impressive how well they work!
I’ve been thinking I’ll order some insulated curtains for this space, but my wife has wondered if this fix is actually more effective! We might still hang some, but I’ll keep these two panels around for extremes.

A bright moment during a stressful healthcare appointment today.
The medical assistant came in to the exam room to set things up for my doc. She complimented my rainbow Keens, jewelry, and top with rainbow constellations & planets. I thanked her and said I felt like I needed to start off Pride month strongly.
She beamed and said she put up her new rainbow flag yesterday, “Happy Pride!”
She also didn’t insist on weighing me when she first checked me in! 🎉
It is absolutely the evening to put together the #AnimalCrossing #LEGO set my wife got for me! #Celeste
We went to the store in the mall while her phone was with the Genius Bar folks. We wanted to get a small kit for one of her friend’s awesome kid. Of course we came home with a kit each.
She offered to keep mine for my birthday or I could have it immediately. I opted to save it for while she’s away on her roadtrip.
Today is a contractor extravaganza! I intentionally scheduled a bunch of stuff while my wife is on her roadtrip since it’s so disruptive.
8AM: Roof & gutter cleaning
9:30: Replace hose bib
11ish: Backyard yard debris clean up
1PM: front yard maintenance

OMG, they put the lift system in the yard by driving it between a rhododendron and azalea!!
The lead arborist told me the call it “the spider” and that they try to get it into as many places as possible!
