Three cheers for the queen! Not sure what I said that made her blush like this, though.
(This is a young Myrmecocystus placodops honeypot queen, from Texas).
Often, ant colonies will have more than one queen.
Sometimes, colonies will have dozens, or even hundreds. This is a nest of little fire ants, Wasmannia auropunctata, in Puerto Rico.
The queens are obvious, but do you see the much smaller worker ants?

There is very little literature on Dorymyrmex ensifer, & I'm bringing them up again hoping someone keeps them. These #ants are found in #Chile. They live in sand dunes. Perhaps that is the purpose of their striking clear/sandy color.

Update: They are native to #Argentina but the one person I knew who had them was from Chile. Going to see if there is more information on them now.
