Action needed to save PsychToolbox

Dear colleague, PsychToolbox (PTB) was first released 30 years ago this year and remains one of the most widely used software packages for running behavioural experiments. It offers unrivalled cross-platform visual and audio fidelity and components of PTB underlie functionality in critical parts of other toolboxes, such as PsychoPy. PTB has allowed many of us to establish our careers in science, it is used in countless labs around the world, in industry, our teaching, and student supervision a...

🧪 For vision researchers and psychologists -- having precise control of audio & visual production is vital. You can't measure a reaction time if you don't know when a beep or flash begins! #MATLAB #MATLABAmbassador #psychtoolbox

💻 The humble PC can flash and beep, but can it be a research-grade? Maybe.. whilst high-level languages like #MATLAB are delightfully easy to use, they abstract away hardware control. Low-level languages like C give full and perilous! 1/6

We'll be giving you an update about everything that's new with #Psychtoolbox during the #VSS2024 Psychophysics Software with MATLAB Satellite Event.

Come by on Monday at 2pm to find out more!

Selectivity for food in human ventral visual cortex - Communications Biology

Neural responsiveness to food images was measured in healthy participants using fMRI, establishing food-selective regions using both data- and hypothesis-driven methods. Further analyses illuminate the organization of food within the visual system.

Our 👀 eyes move constantly – yet we perceive a stable world 🌍. Kroell & Rolfs use eye tracking to show that foveal target processing already begins before the eye movement, potentially stabilising our perception.

Foveal vision anticipates defining features of eye movement targets

Before a saccadic eye movement to a location in the visual periphery, human observers' foveal vision becomes more sensitive to the features defining the eye movement target, anticipating information that will soon be fixated in a retinotopic reference frame.
