Do you ever feel like you missed your calling, and were meant to be touring the countryside in a motorcycle & sidecar with your well dressed badger best friend, solving minor mysteries and enjoying tea & adventure?

@jalefkowit you can search open source codebases for "flooboogMultiplier =" and everyone sets it to 1.0. except for two people, one who sets it to 1.0001 with the comment "// critical fix" and someone else who leaves no comment whatsoever and sets it to 9

The G4 cube was discontinued closer to the release of the first Apple II than to today.

That's because I am allergic to GUI app builder interfaces after spending too long staring at LABVIEW / EPrime / Presentation and sorry PsychoPy too. 🤢

Create cockpit-style app with App Designer and Aerospace Toolbox | MathWorks posted on the topic | LinkedIn

Build a cockpit-style app. No simulator needed. Use App Designer and Aerospace Toolbox to create custom apps that display flight status with built-in flight instrument components. If you’re working with similar engineering data, this is a fast way to prototype visualizations, run simulations, or just build something cool ⤵️ | 20 comments on LinkedIn

Now you and I can relive the excitement of being 9 and staring at dials in MATLAB… https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/b31qlzytgb87gktyi8vdy/AerospaceFlightInstruments.m?rlkey=cf74xazbmfg4irnw1yd6k7yzf&dl=0 you’ll need that script and the Aerospace Toolbox… 🧑‍✈️ I did think about using stlread to change the Piper into a TIE Fighter… ⚔️

This is based on the demo here… https://uk.mathworks.com/help/aerotbx/ug/flight-instrument-components-in-app-designer.html?source=15572&s_eid=psm_15572 but rather than drag and drop with App Designer I have implemented the dashboard of dials programmatically. 5/6

It felt so magical when I was 9, and it's the origin of my ingrained 'reverse' Y Axis mode for mousing in FPS games came from. You pull back/push down to nose up – anything else is wrong! ✈️

The thrill of flying was also to be found in the vector graphics of STAR WARS arcade – which had exciting digitised movie samples (for 1982 – they did sound like AM radio on a stormy night). However, there was a distinct lack of spinny dials. 👾 3/6

It had a cyan meets blue horizon world and a bunch of dials – see the image here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_Simulation_(Psion_software) 2/6

Dambusters for the ZX Spectrum however involved staring at dials for hours for an excruciatingly realistic flight duration. ⏳ 4/6
The first flight simulator I played was PSION Flight Simulation on the ZX spectrum in 1982.
