Skye partition system by Piero Lissoni for Lualdi

Dezeen Showroom: created by architect Piero Lissoni for Lualdi, the Skye partition system aims to reflect light into surrounding spaces.

Skye is a partition system of fixed panels and sliding doors that can be customised in an array of configurations.

The Skye system consists of fixed panels and sliding doors

The system is made from wood and glass, with the wood chosen for sustainability reasons as it naturally sequesters carbon, and the glass used to evoke a transparent and light appearance.

The product is customisable, and a range of different glass finishes and thicknesses are available.

The product has wood frames

Lualdi said the design of Skye honoured the brand's history in carpentry and woodworking.

"The collection conceived by Piero Lissoni constitutes the perfect synthesis of the two souls of the company: the more traditional one, linked to woodworking and its origins as an artisan carpentry of the late 1800s," said Lualdi, "and the more contemporary and innovative one, which marked the transition to a design brand and led the company's expansion at an international level."

Storage Black Sugi closet by Piero Lissoni for Porro

Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand Porro has updated its Storage closet system designed by architect Piero Lissoni with new finishes and doors that intend to give it more architectural presence.

The Storage Black Sugi closet has a black, vein-marked surface that aims to reference the ancient Japanese wood-burning technique known as shou sugi ban.

The Porro Storage system can now be fitted with Glide doors

The finish is among several new features added to the Storage closet systems, which according to Porro, are meant to provide "an architectural interplay of full and empty compartments, reflecting the desires and needs of its users".

Another new addition to the product is wireless lighting, which is entirely embedded within the shelving so as not to interrupt its graphic design.

The Black Sugi finish is inspired by Japanese wood-burning

The Storage closets can now also be fitted with Glide doors, which provide a clean and striking architectural detail.

Rather than being made to standard sizes, Storage is now made to order, enabling freedom of composition and reducing waste.

Sloane door handle by Piero Lissoni for Boffi

Dezeen Showroom: architect Piero Lissoni has designed Sloane, a recessed handle for the Aprile and Programma Standard kitchen models by Italian brand Boffi.

The Sloane handle takes the form of a rectangular recessed cutout and is available for cabinets with wood and stainless steel finishes.

The handle takes the form of a recessed cutout

"The backplate of the Sloane rectangular handle can be covered in materials in contrast with the different finish of the fronts," said Boffi.

"A solid wood door, for example, can have the handle finished in the same wood or in contrast in stainless steel."

A different backing material provides contrast

Boffi suggests pairing the handle with kitchen models that do not feature handle rails on their doors such as its Aprile or Programma Standard ranges.

Knoll presents Piero Lissoni's complete KN Collection in online video show

Dezeen promotion: Milanese architect Piero Lissoni has completed his collection of seating designs for American furniture brand Knoll.

Designed for versatility, Knoll's KN Collection is intended for use in the home as well as informal offices. It includes a lounge chair, a high-back chair, an ottoman, two armchairs, a sofa and the latest addition, a four-legged armless chair.

The complete family of designs was presented in a video show that Knoll launched online on Tuesday 25 May 2021. Influenced by fashion shows, the presentation features all the variants in the KN Collection: from the initial KN01 to the latest KN06 and KN07 models.

Lissoni's first design in the series, KN01, debuted in 2018

The seven seating designs are available in multiple variations and are united by their smooth, curved chassis shell and sleek frames.

The KN01 – a sleek, swivel lounge chair with a compact, elegant form – was debuted in 2018. Knoll notes that Lissoni paid special attention to the proportions of the height of the seat and the shell to create a light but generous design.

KN02 is a high back swivel chair that Lissoni describes as "like a cloud", and was launched in the same year accompanied by the KN03 ottoman.

Knoll's KN02 high-back chair and KN03 ottoman were also launched in tandem, in 2018

Equipped with a headrest and a built-in control for adjustment of the reclining position, the KN02 features a hidden mechanism that allows it to shift from an upright posture to a more restful, reclining angle.

In 2019, Knoll introduced the low-slung KN04 armchair together with the KN05 sofa. Both designs have a fixed, four-legged chrome-plated or coated metal rod structure. Their gently curved shells are manufactured in polyurethane, covered in leather or fabric.

The KN05 settee from 2019 has a gently curved, upholstered shell

"The history of the KN family and its growth is a case of 'the more you get, the more you want'," said Lissoni of the collection's beginnings.

"We began with a swivel chair, then we raised it and added movement. But this chair had to have one special characteristic: it had to seem like a cloud, floating in the air. This led to the 02 with its ottoman, the 03."

KN05 was released with the smaller KN04 armchairs

"After that, we asked ourselves, 'why not make an 04? Perhaps we can slim it a little, lower it, make it more streamlined'. So the 04 came into being, and we thought, 'well, that is truly a beautiful object... why not do the 05?'" Lissoni continued.

"And so, number by number, we have reached this latest model, the 07. It is a very simple chair, clear and basic, but it contains the DNA of Knoll – in short, when you see it you know it is a Knoll creation."

The KN06, which features a fibreglass shell, was launched last year and expanded in 2021 with new variations

For the latest KN07 and KN06 models, the leather or fabric-covered shell rests on four fixed legs, or on a height-adjustable swivel base with four stars on glides, or five stars on casters. Its poised, armless seat joins the inner and outer surfaces in a single, fluid line.

The KN06 armchair – taller than the KN04 and with more upright arms – was launched last year. It is available with a fixed leg or swivel structure, and its fibreglass shell is available in glossy white or glossy black, or covered in fabric or leather.

The KN06 armchair is available with four fixed legs, or a four or five stars on castors or glides

In September, at the 2021 edition of the Salone del Mobile, the brand plans to unveil a version of the KN06 and KN07 with a column base structure.

Lissoni is a longtime collaborator with Knoll. In a statement, the brand credits him as serving as a "spokesperson" for its "codes and style" over the years, while praising his designs for "discreetly applying a contemporary language while at the same time paying homage to the classics of the past".

The armless KN07 chair comes with a leather or fabric-covered shell

"The long-term collaboration between Piero Lissoni and Knoll has evolved over time in a range of various projects poised halfway between the home and the office: sofas, chairs, armchairs, bookcases and tables like Avio, Gould, Matic, Matrioska, Red Baron, and Grasshopper," explained the brand.

Levante dining collection by Piero Lissoni for Roda

Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand Roda has launched Levante, a collection of wooden outdoor furniture designed by Piero Lissoni for alfresco dining.

Levante comprises a dining chair and matching table, both distinguished by their wide slats of durable teak wood.

According to Lissoni, the designs take cues from the "classical language of outdoor wood furniture" to offer a timeless aesthetic.

The Levante dining collection includes a table and matching chair

"I designed a collection while thinking of classical outdoor furniture and what we imagine is classical outdoor living, a bit as if these pieces have always existed," the Italian architect explained.

"The styling is not only reassuring for those seeking a classic look but also meets the requirements of those looking for furniture designed for the typical settings and environments of today's world," Roda added.

The pieces are made from teak wood

The Levante collection is made from teak, a species of tropical hardwood that was chosen for its durability in outdoor environments. These slats are bolted together with stainless steel fastenings, which according to Roda offer both "style and functionality".

The dining range forms part of a wider collection of outdoor furniture created for Roda by Lissoni, which also includes the Levante lounge chair and chaise longue.

Levante relaxing collection by Piero Lissoni for Roda

Dezeen Showroom: Italian architect Piero Lissoni has created the Levante relaxing collection, a family of outdoor seating furniture that can be neatly folded and stowed away when not in use, for Roda.

Both the Levante lounge chair and chaise-longue are made from teak, which Italian outdoor furniture brand Roda describes as "the greatest wood for outdoor furniture".

The Levante relaxing collection is made from teak wood

"The solid and elegant teak exalts the excellent proportions and harmony of the design, with the result that the Levante collection will appeal to those who want to turn an outdoor environment into a liveable space that is at once functional and elegant," the brand explained.

The seats are held together by stainless steel joints, which allow them to be folded away to save space.

It includes a lounge chair (above) as well as a chaise-longue

For added comfort, both the chaise-longue and the lounge chair come with matching cushions that can be customised using Roda's outdoor fabrics.

These include a selection of newly released textiles made from an acrylic yarn, which consists of 50 per cent recycled fibres and is produced in a process that uses less water and fewer chemicals than the virgin material.

Pillows can be added for extra comfort

The designs form part of the wider Levante range, which also includes a dining chair and a matching table for al fresco feasting.
