What was before JPEG? #pcx #shorts – YouTube
I feel old, because I vividly remember the PCX (1985) graphics file format: it was the defacto standard under DOS.
TIFF (1986) was slightly younger, and came from the scanner background resulting in very large files though unlike PCX (which had lossless compression), TIFF supported both lossless and lossy compression.
On Windows and OS/2, you had BMP (1985, lossless initially only black and white).
All three suffered from the same problems: different implementations causing all sorts of compatibility problems
Those were the reason for the implementation of newer file formats for graphics like JPG (1992, lossy) and PNG (1996, lossless).

I recently upgraded my motorcycle, I went from a very fun 2024 Honda PCX to a 2022 BMW C400GT. This was a major upgrade in all the right ways. Much more responsive, highway speed capable, heavier and more stable in windy conditions etc. I've already put on around 300 miles since picking it up and I'm having a blast.
Last night, in the dark, I managed to install my first "mod”. A little bar up above the TFT display that I can now mount a QuadLock or equivalent to for better navigation than the built in system. Looking forward to getting this running!
Ignore the dirty bike already in the last picture. It just snowed and I haven't been able to wash it yet. I wasn't able to get it covered in time.
It's still going strong. So many notes! I'm learning a ton.
Next summit is coming together and it's totally aligned to my mission. It'll be in May.
