Cycling the Pyrénées - Day 14! (catching up a few days later...) We celebrated 2 weeks in the mountains by going farther and deeper than before, tackling our aborted trip to the Spanish border from the previous day. The route is simple enough but not easy: 50km up up up, with a 1700m continuous climb. Bigger than Tourmalet! The route passes Gavarnie up to Col de Tentes and, unlike Tourmalet and other better known Cols, there's no snack bar, café, visitor center, or crowds... just close-up mountains and a couple hiking trails. Loved the peace and quiet up here. And then a loooooong descent back towards home. Thankfully all downhill as the heat had set in and we were glad not to have to pedal too hard!
