Now, the only reminders of these once uniquitous names in Glasgow grocery shopping are ghost signs like these, which mark where their stores once stood. While the Galbraith's ghost signs are quite common (often carved in stone above what are still convenience stores to this day), the one on Minard Road is the only Cochrane's ghost sign I've come across so far, potentially making it a unique survivor from Glasgow's past.

Andrew Cochrane began his career in the tea trade in Glasgow in the late 1800s, and by 1914, he had built up a chain of nearly 100 grocery stores around the city. Along with R. And J. Templeton's and Galbraith's (whose logo is shown on the right), they helped provide the city with all the provisions they might need.

Yesterday, I posted the interesting mosaic logo on the left which I'd spotted at the entrance to a cafe on Minard Road on Glasgow and asked of anyone knew what it was. Sure enough, someone did, or more accurately several people did (so thanks to them). It's an Art Deco style logo for Cochrane's Grocers, at one time one of Glasgow's main grocery chains.
