Actually, watching this video again, even it could be taken as self-referential. Like maintaining this fable of beating the mainstream, of being special, evil, but actually realising, perhaps with time, tired with age, that it’s just a delusion, and really your small self gets is being trampled by a an army of pigs marching by. Never quite achieving what could have been. I find that more evocative than a simple criticism of others.
The most common interpretation of #Ohgr’s track Cracked is that it’s a criticism on selling out. But for quite some time after I heard it I thought it was more self-referential or self-ironic. Like the artist questioning their own work. I still like that interpretation.
It’s a cracking track either way. The video makes the first take more explicit, with the reference to #NIN and #Eminem, but I gather that is also just the director’s interpretation.
