I've used #Norton for many years and have generally been happy with it, until now.

Now, I'm finding the program just changes things without any sort of approval request or notification, until after it's happened.

So, what would be the recommendations for an alternative to #Norton360?

I'd been worried of late because my Gmail tab kept having errors and moments, and when I Googled something it would often take multiple refreshes before the search results would appear. Did I have #malware ?

Turns out I did, and I was even paying for it to be there!

It was my #antivirus .

#Norton360 comes with "Browser Protection", enabled by default. And it was totally fucking up my browsing.

Turning that setting off resulted in an instant removal of these symptoms.

Yeah, righto, #Norton360 . I reckon your cool new version is having hallucinations.

I use a batch to start my photo db. It makes backups in case Access shits itself or I fuck up. This involves calculations to get dates and times for a unique backup, then copying files, then it starts the db. If I squint, I can see how this could trigger a "Behavioural" check, but 🤷‍♂️

If it's a virus, I'm fucked, because Norton claims it's been there since March; I run this db several times a day.

Meh.

I have a free 1 year subscription for #Norton360 #antivirus.
I already have AV for all our work computers* so my question for all you #infosec people out there... what should I do with this please?

*We currently have Eset/Nod32 but I'm evaluating Bitdefender as our contract renews soon. If anyone can share good/bad experience about these two I'd appreciate it. There seem to be a lot more buzzwords in AV than I remember and it's hard to see that one product is any better or worse than another.

Anyone know why #Norton360 #Android is suddenly #spamming me many times a day with "Improve your privacy..." #notifications? Mostly about apps collecting suspicious info or with opaque data-collection policies. No malware yet, for which I would not mind this.

Fine, I get it, I read it, and I dismissed the notification. Remind me about these apps again in time 𝙏, okey? And in the meantime shut yer gob unless something *new* crops up, yeah?
