I am SO FASCINATED w #etymology, especially the simple, direct lines in languages' ancestries.

So many #languages have similar words for "no": nope, nein, nee, nö, ניין, non, немає, nei, не, níl, न, , नहीं, nac, etc.

All ultimately descended from a common Proto-Indo-European ancestor probably pronounced "nuh" or "neh," barely more than a phoneme--

--and relatively unchanged for about 4,000 years.

Setting a negating boundary has been almost universal for millennia.
