So, long story short, I had to go into debt to put a new roof over our barn last year. I used some of the leftover funds to replace a broken removable window facing west in the upstairs "attic" area of our house that had been boarded up for years. I just removed the new window (it's a single pane in a frame, and meant to be removed), and now we have cool air coming in from the west, which will cool the upstairs. Unfortunately, the old window fan that was like a jet engine died last year. Maybe I can have someone at a repair clinic take a look at it... The previous owners had mentioned how well the air flow worked on nights when the wind was coming from the mountains. They knew what they were talking about!
Yesterday marked the hottest day of the year so far in our apartment, with the indoor temperature reaching 28ยฐC. This is especially challenging considering that in Central Europe, most apartments, including ours, are not equipped with air conditioning. As seen in the temperature data tracked over the summer, our indoor temperatures have been steadily climbing.

...exasperates me that these solutions haven't been adopted elsewhere en masse.
The only thing I saw on TV a year or so ago were Spanish architects trying out new building designs to have a passive cooling system for buildings, like the #Windcatchers.

I've watched this interesting clip about a man-made symbiosis for the ingenious fertilizer solution two times. Not being an architect, IDK if the pigeons are staying cool in these "roosting towers" built for them. They might not need an A/C then.
Humans, however, need another solution. And they can be found on the #MiddleEast, too, the #Windcatcher towers:

Citing reports of excessive heat in Texas prisons, House Democrats call for investigation
Fourteen Congressional Democrats, including two from Texas, signed a letter calling for a probe into heat-related conditions in prisons across the country.
The state Senate rejected a Texas House request to use more than a half a billion dollars of the stateโs surplus to expedite installation of modern HVAC systems in prisons.
We debase ourselves as a society by treating our prisoners worse than dogs.
"[W]e have to do something about this heat. I mean, dogs in a dog pound have air conditioning."
