This might already be the last picture I'll be posting this year : I will be out and about for the last days of 2025. I'm pretty happy about my first year on Pixelfed. What started as an experiment turned out to be an awesome experience. I posted my first pictures back in January, in order to find out if this was the place to share my pictures and discover work from other fellow photographers. I did not relate to Instagram so Pixelfed felt like a more frendly and familiar place. Hanging on Pixelfed, I was able to see a lot of amazing inspiring work from many talented photographers. And because of the reactions my pictures earned (not hundreds of likes but a few dozen) it motivated me to continue.

This year I posted one picture every two and a half days, most of them from my archives but not all: I had the chance to make two amazing trips where I gathered a lot of nice shots.

What's the plan for next year ? I don't want to set myself quantified goals, just continue having fun with all of you !

BTW, this is some vintage shot from my archives : orange sunset from late december 2012 (13 years ago !!)

I was looking at some my my earliest digital photos the other day and I noticed that my first couple of digital cameras back in the early 00's had really vivid colors, images unlike anything I get today, and I was thinking about that so I did some research and learned that they had an earlier type of sensor called a CCD whereas most new cameras have a different technology called CMOS. CMOS is faster but the colors from CCD sensors are more film-like, so there is now a bit of a vogue to bring back older CCD cameras. Well, I did some research and found that the sweet spot for a CCD camera was a 10-megapixel Sony manufactured sensor that was found in a few of the Nikon DSLRs before they converted to CMOS and those cameras are super cheap and common. So, I bought a D40X for $50 and here is the result. Beautiful color, very film-like texture to the image, just excellent. The resolution is lower and the sensor is a little slower to shoot with in terms of frames per second but it shoots RAW and it looks GREAT. And the price point is insane. Anyhow, here are a dozen shots of the doggos from tonight in the yard to show what a $50 Goodwill Nikon from 2006 can do. Nice. #dogsofpixelfed #dslr #nikond40x
