@binford2k @fale thx.
It's always about "#NetworkingEffect" and how both ecosystems (regardless if APIs in HTTP(S), S3-compatible Object Storage or GSM-based mobile networks) and thus standards get established.
- Rarely the technologically superior ones (i.e. CDMA / IS-95, Iridium) get dominant and capital won't necessarily guarantee success (i.e. Joyn, Horizon Worlds, Decentraland).
Oftentimes it's the one that is available to everyone (i.e. SMS, SEPA, girocard) or the most convenient one (i.e. PayPal vs. wero; Monero vs. Bitcoin) or the most globally accessible one (i.e. PayPal vs. WeChat Pay vs. AliPay vs. CashApp vs. Venmo vs. prepaid-based microbanking vs. klarna)...
- Small people think in protocols (i.e. Signal), big corporations think in Ecosystems (i.e. NSAbooj), Professionals think both and add decentralization, self-hosting capabilities and open standardization to it (i.e. XMPP)...
