Met een groep medestanders ben ik The Firewall begonnen omdat ik weiger toe te kijken hoe techgiganten onze democratie ondermijnen. The Firewall vecht terug. Gewapend met de twee belangrijkste middelen uit het democratische arsenaal: het vrije woord en de rechtspraak.

"Blood is Russia's art" - Russian punk group Pussy Riot and members of Ukrainian feminist organization FEMEN swarmed the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale under a cloud of pink, blue and yellow smoke to protest Russia’s participation

Protesters in pink balaclavas swarm Russian pavilion at Venice Biennale

Punk group Pussy Riot and Ukraine's FEMEN feminist organization have swarmed the Russian pavilion at the Venice Biennale, protesting outside the venue and releasing colored smoke. They shouted “Russia’s art is blood” and “Disobey” while wearing pink balaclavas. The protesters chanted, played a punk rock song and dispersed without confrontation. This marks Russia's first participation at the famed international exhibition since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The European Union cut a 2-million-euro grant to the Biennale in protest. Pussy Riot's Nadya Tolokonnikova said only dissident art should represent Russia. The Biennale defended Russia's inclusion, but the Italian government opposed it, while acknowledging the independence of the international arts show.

Sam Altman: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.”

Meaning: We stole all your knowledge , writing, and art, and now we’re gonna put a meter on it and sell it back to you. You’re welcome.”

"I know that many men and even women are afraid and angry when women do speak, because in this barbaric society, when women speak truly they speak subversively - they can't help it: if you're underneath, if you're kept down, you break out, you subvert. We are volcanoes. When we women offer our experience as our truth, as human truth, all the maps change. There are new mountains.

That's what I want - to hear you erupting. You young Mount St. Helenses who don't know the power in you - I want to hear you. I want to listen to you talking to each other and to us all: whether you're writing an article or a poem or a letter or teaching a class or talking with friends or reading a novel or making a speech or proposing a law or giving a judgement or singing the baby to sleep or discussing the fate of nations, I want to hear you. Speak with a woman's tongue. Come out and tell us what time of night it is! Don't let us sink back into silence. If we don't tell our truth, who will? Who'll speak for my children, and yours?"

— Ursula K. Le Guin, from her 1986 commencement address at Bryn Mawr College (published in Dancing at the Edge of the World: Thoughts on Words, Women, Places).

Today Bruce Springsteen reminded us why music still matters. Fresh off the press—written Saturday, recorded yesterday, released TODAY—‘Streets of Minneapolis’ is a blazing call to conscience.

In the dead of winter, on icy Nicollet Avenue, a city fights fire and injustice under occupiers’ boots. Yet the people stand. For justice. For neighbors. For Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and every innocent life stolen.

The Boss didn’t wait for permission—he grabbed his guitar and roared: freedom isn’t given, it’s defended. This isn’t just a song; it’s a battle cry wrapped in heartland rock.

Minneapolis, you are not alone.

America, wake up. We rise together.

Listen now. Feel it. Share it. Stay free.

Cool! In line with #GlobalSwitchDay,
German #digital #rights groups and tech companies started organising #DigitalIndependenceDay on the first Sunday of every month to help users move away from US tech platforms.

✊🏼 Together we can break the dominance of #BigTech and foster a more #resilient, #democratic digital space in #Europe by migrating to privacy-focused EU alternatives for services like messaging, cloud storage and shopping. Let’s go!

Microsoft Office has been replaced by "Microsoft 365 Copilot App" 🙄 (not a joke, see office.com)

Fortunately there are many good alternatives on the Fediverse:

➡️ @libreoffice - Free open source office suite, can be used entirely offline
➡️ @CollaboraOffice - Online fork of LibreOffice, upstream contributor
➡️ @nextcloud - FOSS personal cloud including collaborative office tools
➡️ @CryptPad - FOSS online office suite with maximum privacy
