The #netshutdown approach seen during the #MyanmarCoup is going to become less and less common. Trying to block access that way attracts worldwide attention, and is very unlikely to be successful. (The playbook to beat it was clear even for Tahrir).

The modern approach is discrediting opposing views, threatening activists online with armies of sybils, and imposing physical lockdowns while challenging all news on social media as fake.
