Julian West🦞I imagine Trump's suggestion that Russia be allowed to keep the parts of Ukraine it has invaded and seized will someday be looked upon the way the Munich Agreement is: Caving to the aggressor in return for its promise not to aggress further. Probably will work our about as well as that deal with Hitler worked.

The similarities to today are striking:
-Germany occupied parts of a sovereign nation, basing their claims on a #language spoken by a minority.
-Like Ukraine, #Czechoslovakia ’s defenses were strongest on the regions given to Hitler.
-”#SecurityGuarantees” for Czechoslovakia weren’t worth the paper they were written on, and #WW2 started a year later.

This was, of course, a disaster for Czechoslovakia. Despite warnings, the Munich Agreement did not prevent Germany from invading Poland in 1939.
